Monthly Check-in

Have you ever just felt like you needed a change? Did it hit you like a freight truck? Or was it a slow progression to do what you needed to do? Mine hit me like a semi-truck going 75 miles per hour.

It started when Caleb and I were traveling to South Texas to visit my brother and his family. While I was driving, I was getting irritated that something was touching my back and it felt uncomfortable. Once I was able to stop for gas I reached behind me to find out what it was and it was BACK FAT! Yes you heard me BACK FAT! I couldn’t believe it. I sat in utter shock. When I told Caleb about it he started laughing. I was not laughing about it as I grew up always being the “bigger (fat) cousin”.

Now don’t get me wrong. Everyone deserves to feel good in their own body, but each person’s opinion of how they feel and look is different. I’ve never been the skinniest girl in the room. I was the tallest, curviest in the room and was okay with that since I was a cheerleader and was required to be a little bigger than the other girls. Having felt that back fat made me feel off, upset but determined.

After that weekend away I set a goal for myself. I wanted to do more. I wanted a better life, to help treat the root cause of my PCOS and live a healthier, fit life. I looked at a few different women that I follow on Instagram and remembered my good friend Kayla behind @thepcosbible and saw that she had just released an eBook collection for PCOS combining healthy eating and exercises meant to help nourish not only your hormones but your overall physical health.

Eager to move towards my better life I joined @THEPCOSBIBLE Workout and Recipe Challenge! I love being in the kitchen.

One morning we made a Spinach and Mushroom Scramble with some Turkey Sausage and a few potatoes.  For dinner one night we had stuffed salmon with gluten free panko shrimp, brussel sprouts and newt potatoes. For breakfast when I’m on the run for work I love making the quick overnight oats with frozen berries. Lastly for lunch I love Rotisserie chicken sandwiches (with gluten free bun of course) and grapes for a little sweet tooth craving.

Below is a recap of how my first month went!

Week 1- With Kayla’s workouts it’s 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with the 4th day being an “Active Rest Day” this can be walking, swimming, yoga or even just stretching. I was excited to get started and had Caleb right there working out with me which made me feel even better.

Week 2- This week was all about building up your strength. I looked at the workouts and grew concern that I wouldn’t be able to get through it. Kayla sent encouraging words to keep me going and Caleb reminded me why I am working out in the first place. By the time week 2 was over I felt like a champion.

Week 3- This week was so thrown off it really took a toll on me emotionally and mentally with everything going on in the world but I was determined to keep up my normal routine while still doing my part in the community.

Week 4- Hello looser pants and flatter tummy! I looked in the mirror with awe and was excited to see my pants a little looser, my hormone belly a little flatter and my legs more toned.

This is just the beginning and I’m so excited to be taking you on this journey with me!

If you would like to join me in the challenge you should! You don’t have to have PCOS in order to do this.

  1. This is a good read! Thank you. My fiancé and I have been on keto for a few weeks now. I have made progress by losing 12 pounds but unfortunately I have started slipping for the past week. Reading your blog has gave me the kick I needed to get back on track.
